Bill "The Fox Guy" Leikam has lived in Santa Clara County for over 50 years, and has served two terms on the Board of Directors, first from 2013 to 2017, and then from 2018 to 2020. He also served as Associate Director between 2017 and 2018.
Bill works tirelessly to keep animal corridors and territories linked and open for animal travel from one region to another around the San Francisco Bay. Science has been a fundamental part of his life starting when he was just a teenager, and growing up on the banks of Corralitos Creek - wild creek flowing from the Santa Cruz Mountains, down the western slopes and through his backyard - initiated his love of creeks, fish, wildlife, and the pace and rhythm of the seasons.
Nine years ago, Bill began documenting, photographing and researching the behavior of the gray fox, something that had never before been done in such a comprehensive way. He is the founder of the Urban Wildlife Research Project, and is a volunteer for the Don Edwards San Francisco Bay National Wildlife Refuge.
