March 6, 2026

Unscheduled Vacancy: Director (Volunteer)

To apply for a Director position:

You may either submit an  County application online or you may download a County pdf application and email it to the Board Clerk's Office , with a cc: to gcrcd@gcrcd.org .
  • Update: Interviews were held on April 2, 2026, but the County is still accepting applications. See above for the County process. Applicants are also encouraged, but are not required, to complete a District application and participate in an interview with the District Board. The first round of interviews with the District Board is tentatively scheduled for April 2, 2026 at 6 p.m. Candidates who submit applications by noon that day will be scheduled for interview by the NSCRCD Board for possible recommendation to the Board of Supervisors. NOTICE

The North Santa Clara Resource Conservation District (NSCRCD) is seeking candidates to fill an unscheduled vacancy on its Board of Directors due to a mid-term resignation. NSCRCD is an independent special district of the State of California governed by a Board of Directors pursuant to Division 9 of the California Public Resources Code. The five-member volunteer Board provides policy and fiscal direction to the District in support of its mission, which is “to provide education and technical assistance to constituents and watershed stakeholders to sustainably manage soil, water and wildlife with the best available science”.

At the request of the District, Directors are currently appointed by the Santa Clara County Board of Supervisors in order to minimize the tax-funded costs associated with holding Director elections. Four-year terms are staggered and expire on the last Friday of November in even-numbered years. Because this appointment will be for an unscheduled vacancy, it will be only for the remaining unexpired term for this seat, which will end on November 24, 2028.

Eligibility

NSCRCD is committed to expanding participation in District leadership and advancing Board membership that reflects the communities we serve. Resource conservation districts were originally structured so that landowners, particularly those managing agricultural lands, would guide local conservation efforts. Our District believes that today’s conservation challenges and solutions extend well beyond land ownership, and that stewardship of our natural resources benefits from the perspectives and participation of the entire community.

In addition to being a landowner who lives in the District, there are two other ways to establish eligibility for appointment to the Board of Directors:

  • District residents who have served as an Associate Director with the District for at least two years; and
  • Community members who serve as a designated agent for a landowner who lives in the District. (We can help connect interested individuals with landowners who support the District's goal to expand participation.)

We have successfully used these pathways over the past decade to help bring a wider range of voices and experiences into District leadership. If you are interested in submitting an application but are unsure about eligibility, we encourage you to contact us to discuss the different options.

Additional requirements

NSCRCD has adopted a District Director Policy outlining general responsibilities.  Additionally, as public officials, Directors also are required to complete ethics and harassment training every two years, and complete a Statement of Economic Interests (FPPC Form 700) at regular intervals, including upon assuming office.  Prior to assuming office, the appointee will be asked to certify that they meet the State-mandated requirements for the position.
